COMMUNION OF THE SICK.

Forafmuch as all mortal men are subject to many fudden perils, difeafes, and fickneffes, and ever uncertain what time they shall depart out of this life; therefore, to the intent they may always in readiness to die, whenfoever it fhall please. Almighty God to call them, the Minifters fhall diligently from time to time (but efpecially in the time of peftilence, or other infectious ficknels) exhort their Parishioners to the often receiving of the Holy Communion of the Body and Blood of our Saviour Chrift, when it fhall be publickly adminiftered in the Church; that fo doing, they may, in cafe of fudden vifitation, have the lefs caufe to be difquieted for lack of the fame. But if the fick Perfon be not able to come to the Church, and yet is defirous to receive the Communion in his boufe; then he must give timely notice to the Minifter, fignifying alfo how many there are to communicate with him (which shall be two at the leaft ;) and all things neceflary being prepared, the Minifter fhall there celebrate the Holy Communion, beginning with the Collect, Epifile, and Gospel, here following:

At the time of the diftribution of the Holy Sacrament, the Minister fhall first receive the Communion himself, and after minifter unto those who are appointed to communicate with the fick, and laft of all to the fick Perfon.

¶But if a man, either by reafon of extremity of fickness, or for want of warning in due time to the Minifter, or for lack of company to receive with him, or by any other juft impediment, do not receive the Sacrament of Chrift's Body and Blood, the Minifter fhall inftruct him, that if he do truly repent him of his fins, and fedfaftly believe that Jefus Chrift bath fuffered death upon the Grofs for him, and fhed his Blood for his redemption, earnestly remembering the benefits be bath thereby, and giving bim hearty thanks therefor, he doth eat and drink the Body and Blood of our Saviour Chrift profitably to his foul's health, although he do not receive the Sacrament with his mouth.

When the fick perfon is vifited and receiveth the Holy Commi nion all at one time, then the Minifter, for more expedition, ball cut off the Form of the Vifitation at the Pfalm, and ge Braight to the Communion.

¶In the times of contagious fickness or diseases, when none of the Parifh or Neighbours can be gotten to communicate with the fick in their houses, for fear of the infection; upon special request of the difeafed, the Minifter alone may communicate with him.
